The VORTEX presents the Regional Premiere of Click by Jacqueline Goldfinger, currently nominated for the 2020 Susan Smith Blackburn Prize, the 2020 LAMBDA Literary Award, and the 2020 James Black Tait Memorial Prize.

A techno-thriller that begins when a young woman is raped at a fraternity and ends in a future where corporations promise a new body with the swipe of a screen, Click follows a hacktivist named Fresh who turns industrial espionage into high art. As this virtual Banksy takes over the global imagination, the man who stole her life develops a technology that sends the two of them on a collision course at the heart of the corporate empire, where innovation comes at any cost. A cyberpunk drama for the #metoo era, director Rudy Ramirez and a cast of Austin’s finest young actors unite to tell this story of trauma, transformation and reclaiming who you are.

The PLaywright
Jacqueline Goldfinger (she/they) is a playwright and educator. She grew up in the rural South and is primarily known for her work in the Southern Gothic genre. She teaches Playwriting and Dramaturgy in the MFA Theater Program at Temple University. She is Guest Faculty at the National Theater Institute at the O’Neill Theatre Center and curates the theater-makers resource, Page By Page. She is an Affiliated Artist at New Georges, National New Play Network, and The Lark Playwright’s Center. She is a member of the writers’ labs at Azuka Theatre and The Barrow Group. She is currently commissioned by The Wilma Theatre, The Arden Theater, L’Engle Estate/The Kennedy Center, and Florida Studio Theater.
She won the Yale Drama Prize, Smith Prize, Generations Award, Brown Martin Award, Barrymore Award, and Philadelphia Critics Award. Her plays have been on The Kilroy’s List. Her book, Bottle Fly, published by Yale Press, was a finalist at the International Book Awards. Her plays have been developed at theaters including: New Georges, The National Theatre/London, Wilma Theatre, The Kennedy Center, La MaMa, Disquiet/Lisbon, McCarter Theater, Kitchen Dog Theater, Sacred Fools, Orlando Shakespeare Theatre, and Kansas City Rep. Her plays have been produced at theaters including: Perseverance Theatre, The Court Theatre/New Zealand, Capital Stage Company, The Seattle Public, Manhattan Theatre Works, Theatre Exile, Unicorn Theatre, The VORTEX, and the NYC International Fringe Festival. Her work is published by Yale Press, Samuel French, Playscripts, Smith & Krause, and Blackbird Literary Journal. You can also read her unpublished work on the New Play Exchange.
